I pushed against the narrative that the Liberal Party has a woman problem until a couple of years ago. I have in the past week resigned from the Liberal Party because I now know I was wrong. It does have a woman problem and I don't think it's going be fixed any time soon. The treatment of Moira by the Liberal Party exemplifies the woman problem it has. It obviously considers women in the party to be superfluous and expendable. So I superfluoued myself and am self expended. I suspect I am not the only one.
I was at the Let Women Speak rally. It was pretty obvious that this was a set up, probably by Andrews or his team, to get at Pesutto, and Pesutto, instead of simply telling the truth, took the low road. Instead of the focus being on the women's speeches and message, it was now about Pesutto being seen to be a 'strong leader' by defaming Moira.
He's simply not a fit man to be a leader.of anything, he has no moral compass and cannot stand for basic woman's rights. The Liberal Party is a party of craven misogynists and unless it turns itself.around soon, by sacking Pesutto for cowardice and malicious lies, and withdraws its loan offer, women will leave, and we are 51 pc of the electorate.
It is truly bizarre why the Victorian Liberal Party keep on intending to stretch out on a limb to assist one of their most totally failed political operators ever.
After 7 years of active terfery the thing leaving me deeply shaken and shocked to the core most, is the revelation of the deep ingrained misogyny of so many men, whatever their ideologies or political affiliations. I have been disgusted to learn this about particular men whether they are on the right, the left or in mainstream politics.
I have learned, with shock and sorrow, that seldom was a truer word said.
It seems that the various successes of the feminist political agenda in western societies (equal pay, rights to education, more legal protections against male violence, etc...) has stretched such a successful veneer of civility over masculinist privilege that large numbers of women have been deluded into thinking that everything is just hunky dory now, that we are truly equal and woman hating is rare.
Its disturbing young women are confident this has been achieved in one generation and will last forever.
Personally, beginning 7 years ago I'm beginning to doubt it....
They have no choice - bankrupts aren't allowed to sit in Parliament so its a political emergency. He probably will never have to repay he money but they can't just gift it for legal and tax reasons (and how it looks of course).
As for his selection into the leadership - they had only like 20odd MPs in this parliament and Matthew Guy, while being a nice-guy (I 've been told by friends who personally know him) just wasn't cutting it and ran to the end of his leadership cul-de-sac. I for one would love to see Moira lead the party! But she isn't a blue-blood.
I wouldn't have gone as hard against Pesutto - as I am willing to believe this was a kneejerk error of judgment rather than a calculated tactic. That he kept digging himself (and party) deeper into. Which wouldn't look as bad on him from a moral standpoint - but would show a lack of judgment and political ability. As you indicate this all goes beyond Pesutto individually as remember the majority of caucus voted against Deeming so its on them collectively.
So the cash advance is kind of appropriate since this was a team effort. They aren't actually being that generous - firstly they are doing it for hard political reasons as bankrupts can't legally serve in parliament so they have to save his arse to avoid a by-election. Secondly to the old-money Bailleus & Krogers $1.5M is an extension to their Toorak sheds. At least it isn't taxpayer money, unlike another legal case currently ending.

It’s disappointing to be wrong about hopeful things.
The Greens have a woman problem. Labor has a woman problem.
Where you find men, you will find a woman problem.

Brilliant commentary.
I agree with every single word.

'Women have no idea how much men hate them...' Germaine Greer. So true!

So well written
