My grandmother was born in Brisbane Edith Clara Hughes in 1898, father unknown. Edith’s mother Mary was also born father unknown in Brisbane, in 1878. My grandmother had three surnames in her life, the one she was born with, the one she adopted when her mother married, and the one she took when she married my Grandfather William Wyatt. My grandfather was born neither William nor Wyatt, adopting both those names from the man his mother married.
The man everyone called Bill was born in Redfern, Sydney Harold Leslie Gow in 1894. In retrospect, this is the reason my mother made me memorise and write down his four names (William Harold Leslie Wyatt), because the truth is hidden in the lie, as it almost always is.
When I went to look for William’s birth certificate, I was unable to find it, until on a hunch I searched his birthday without his first name. It was such a relief to find his name and the family line she always hinted at, that went back to the second and third fleet.
Our ancestors were human cargo on fleets of vessels that were sent to colonise the largest Island and the smallest continent on the face of the earth. It’s quite the boast now among the fashionable left-wing celebrities to have convict heritage, but my mother only confessed to know this in whispers. The family my grandmother grew up in was the McVinnishes, she took their name and they were a respectable family of Scottish free settlers.
My mother was so committed to upholding the lie she sent my sister to Scottish dancing lessons until my grandmother died, both of them knowing full well we didn’t have a drop of Scottish blood in our veins. The social shame of my grandmother’s birth was being covered by her mother’s marriage into an established family.
If the British learned anything from the massive colonisation project they undertook, it was how to make governments that manage populations in a range of adverse conditions with adaptive administrative and cultural tools. The British knew how to make a bureaucracy. Excellence in administrative systems is a feature of all descendants of the colonial system.
The creature of British colonial government and its tyrannous efficiency has been tamed a little by liberalism, by the theoretical change in master, from the monarch to the people. Forced accountability to the population itself and human rights principles has meant that even though I am the daughter of sluts and convicts, I was born with a set of rights and opportunities my grandmothers couldn’t have possibly dreamed of.
The administrative creature that we call government, is now openly resisting accountability to the people as it once did to the monarchs.
The humanities have been repurposed as the church of government, to provide self sustaining rationale for the government to take advice that it makes for itself. Humanities create technologies of government that bypass popular accountability by adherence to a set of moral principles that it calls “equity” or “progress” or the “right side of history”. The last one is my favourite because it replaces the fortune teller that advised the king in court. Just a reminder that a nation state that claims its own moral core and authority, is fascist by definition.
The fact that there is a humanities department called “colonial studies” that blames colonialism on white women like me and the descendants of the white men who came to this nation in chains, in a massive and cruel experiment, should indicate that we are now being trolled by this monster. No, whiteness didn’t colonise the world, governments did, and they are still doing it. Only, they have now colonised the resistance movements, so we will need to start again with those.
My grandmother Edith contracted polio when she was five and lived with only one functioning leg. My grandfather William Wyatt went to the Middle East with the 5th light Horse in WW1, he was involved in the battle of Beersheba. By the time William married my disabled grandmother he was well and truly affected by a genetic disease that would continue to decimate my family.
My mother led us to believe that William suffered from shell shock and that was the cause of the stories she told of long stays of hospitalisation. Serving the Empire is noble, having a genetic defect that sends you insane before the onset of tremors and gradual muscular decline until your body starves you to death, that’s not a nice narrative, that’s a horror story.
William died in a Sandgate hospice and the cause of death is clearly listed as “Huntington’s Disease”(HD). Mum and her only sibling both carried the defective HD gene, they had three female children of whom I am the only one to not carry the defective gene and I am the only female survivor of our weird little family.
I won the worlds cruellest lottery and the prize for winning is watching these women lose every piece of dignity possible for humans before they died. I am more thankful for the welfare state than you can imagine, and for the way the labour movement fought for the rights of workers to access medical care, housing in retirement and pensions. This week we have heard the right mock Whitlam, but he was the reason I have a tertiary education.
I want to say this to make clear I am not anti-government and I am certainly not anti-left. I believe in the good the government can do but they are making themselves unaccountable to the people through the development of a nonsense church and religion that it is choosing over public accountability.
My mother told us lies to cover the shame and because the truth was too painful to bear. I grew up determined to scorn the shame and embrace the truth. I didn’t know this would make me a dissident to the refashioned empire.
On Friday the Queensland Government enacted legislation that allows any person to change their sex marker on their birth certificate to affirm a fictitious identity concept called “gender identity”. Gender identity is an experimental tool of population control that has been too much for the new left to resist.
The new left is essentially a colonising ideology that emerged from people who have colonised the old workers movement, as they have colonised all the resistance movements. The ruling class left now control the political capital and infrastructure of the working class, the cultural capital and goodwill of the gay rights movement, a re-engineered feminism (with its ovaries well and truly removed), and the cultural capital of all race resistance movements.
The new left tells us that the state is going to stop things like homophobia, domestic violence and the favourite in fashionable circles, “transphobia”. Transphobia is a favourite because when self ID legislation is joined with hate crime legislation, this made-up discrimination category becomes a key tool to weaponize the police force against the people. All you need to do to be guilty of a hate crime under a gender supremacy regime is to tell the truth.
In a state with the separation of powers it is hard to use the police against the people because it is unconstitutional, so this complicated and nonsense ideology is a rare bird for a democratically elected government to be able to control political option online, in the workplace and in the media.
The Self ID legislation that was pushed through the Queensland parliament on the last day of sitting, was promoted by government funded LGBTQ groups, the government only consulted with government funded organisations who adopted government grown gender ideology. The government were proud to have consulted also with what they call “trans women”, so men. The voice of women has been actively suppressed and silenced. The Queensland government has placed their hand over our mouth while they took away our sex. And this has fundamentally changed my relationship with my government.
The Attorney General of Queensland Shannon Fentiman refused to meet with women’s groups that I am involved with, or with any women who were concerned about the known devastating consequences of the legislation. When we planned to have a meeting at the Royal on the Park hotel, government sympathisers threatened the hotel. The hotel cancelled our booking. The hotel told us that their staff felt unsafe with us speaking, the hotel is owned by the Sultan of Brunei who has advocated for the punishment of homosexuality and adultery to be stoning to death.
In the city where my mothers, grandmothers and sisters suffered in a harsh colonial reality, I am now a dissident to the new empire. A dissident is anyone who will not tell a state lie to maintain social and political position, and I will not lie.
The new lie is that if only women will release the boundary, they have between themselves and men everyone will be free, if only we would believe that men can become women with a declaration, peace will ensue on earth.
Gender identity ideology is an experimental template of population management and the Queensland Government have brought it in by failing to consult with the public and actively suppressing opposition. This is fascism and illegitimate statecraft.
Removing accurate sex categories means disabled and sick people like my family will not be able to chose a female carer, it means men in women’s prisons, it means the doctoring of crime statistics to indicate a rise in female crime, it means gaslighting our daughters to ignore their natural instincts when they see a man, it is a disaster and a violation of the liberal state, of women’s rights, and of child safeguarding.
These are not bugs of the bill to change sex markers on birth certificate, these are the intention. The government are fully aware of these problems, and they are offering Queensland women and children as a sacrifice for the greedy increase of their own power over the cultural meanings that belong to women and men.
The Queensland Government don’t really know if the population will accept this, so resistance is not futile.
While we live under this regime, I will never use a female pronoun or term for a male person. I will not recognise gender identity in any way except a made-up category of government overstep. No child is ever born in the wrong body, teaching gender identity ideology to children is child abuse.
After the legislation was passed my activist friends have been more aggressively trolled than usual with the gross behaviour trans activists go on with, including thinly veiled death threats. This is the new reality for those who dissent in Queensland.
These little scrotes have been also busy using names online that women don’t use publicly for fear of social and financial recrimination. I won’t link to them, but this doxing is a constant threat to the livelihood of women who are active in this movement.
So, to the scrote who called me “Christine” online recently, darling I don’t care if you know my first name is Christine. I use my middle name “Edie” in my work to honour my grandmother after whom my mother named me. I have also been public with my married name. I use “Wyatt” to honour my variously named maternal line. And really boys you are the last people to be digging up people’s birth names to attempt to shame them. Also, you are not women, you will never be women and you can send me a thousand knives and I will never say that a man is a woman.
Cheers,
Edie.
Oh I wish I could write like you do. Such clarity and anger conveyed with never a 'nasty' word. I stand with you Edie.
Bravo!
